Object of a Relative Clause

The object of a relative clause is the noun which acts as the object (the item which is being acted on) within the relative clause.

 

The object of the relative clause can be the relative pronoun:

The ghost (whom we had seen at the roller rink) seemed to be wearing an old KISS t-shirt.

The object of the relative clause can be a pronoun:

The image (that saved her from bitterness) was the image of her husband eating cat food in his senior years and making yum-yum sounds.

The object of the relative clause can be a generic noun:

The food (that gave the dog hives) was Mama's meatloaf made with maraschino cherries.

The object of the relative clause can be a gerund phrase:

The (boy who insisted on riding on his father's shoulders) eventually landed a job as a horse tamer.
