Steps to a Discourse on Metacognition


1. Knowledge of Cognition

Person — understanding one's own thought processes and the fact that othershave distinct thought proceses

Task—understanding the affordances and constraints posed by a project and its circumstances

2. Planning — involves identifying a problem, analyzing it, and choosing a strategy to address it (also includes knowledge of the range of approaches one might effectively use to complete such a project)

3. Monitoring — involves evaluating one's cognition and efforts toward a project

4. Regulation/Control — includes the choices one makes as a result of monitoring

4. Evaluation — entails assessing the quality of a completed project
