Final AV

In The New York Times column by David Brooks entitled "The Secular Society" (July 8, 2013), why does Brooks say that contemporary life is more morally demanding? Do you think most informed Americans would agree that people feel "disconnected to a transcendent order, . . . feel trapped in a flat landscape, with diminished dignity?" Provide examples from any of your reading, your conversations with other Americans or your experience to support your evaluation of the author's assertion.
